Is eating in an eatery sinful (fisq)?

Question

Question: Is it established from the books of fiqh and from hadiths that one who eats in eateries is a fasiq? And if he eats in an eatery even once, will his testimony not be accepted according to the Shari‘a? Please write in detail whether the same ruling applies in a state of travel as well.

Answer

Eating while walking in the bazaar, or eating in the middle of the bazaar on a public thoroughfare, is contrary to decorum (muru’a), and because of this the acceptance of testimony is called into question. But if there is a fixed place for eating — an eatery or shops — then that does not fall under this. Moreover, in travel there is also latitude.
