Relating the Battles of the Camel and Siffin Before the Common People

Question

What is the ruling on relating among people the mutual dispute and disagreement between Hazrat ‘A’isha al-Siddiqa ﵂, Hazrat ‘Ali and Hazrat Mu‘awiya ﵄, and criticising it?

Answer

It is necessary to find a good interpretation (mahmal hasan) for their affairs; for this, the book Izalat al-Khafa of Hazrat Shah Waliullah ﵀ and other such works are very useful. Disrespect and insolence towards their rank must never be committed, for this is dangerous to one’s iman. Such events should not be related before the common people.
