Question: Which of the Persian poets were truly good? Reply: Your question too is a poetic one. There are different aspects: in counsel the station of Shaykh Saʿdī ﵀ is high, while in love and intoxication Ḥāfiẓ Shīrāzī has gone further. Question: I have heard that Ḥāfiẓ Shīrāzī was a great Sufi. Reply: So I too have heard. The two were maternal uncle and nephew.
