Donations were collected for riot victims and some remained: what should be done with it
Question
Question: The gist of the question is this: to assist the Muslims who suffered enormous losses in the riots in Ranchi, a Muslim Relief Committee was formed, into which a considerable amount of donations was collected; a considerable amount was distributed and some remained. In any case, it is now being decided to spend it on other works, although there are many widows.
Answer
Donation money is to be spent only on the works for which the donations were collected; spending the money on other works without the permission of the donors is not permissible. Whatever works the donors have the remaining sum spent on, the money will be spent on those works. The status of the Muslim Relief Committee is merely that of a trustee (amin) and agent (wakil).
