What to do if, after buying, one learns the thing is haram
Question
Question: If a haram thing is bought and this becomes known afterwards — since the person from whom it was bought will not take it back, what should be done?
Answer
If it is wine or the like, let him have it sold through some kafir. If it is an offering or the like, let him give it to the original owner, or say to him: “This thing is your property, but you offered it at such-and-such a grave, and it has not left your ownership. I bought it by mistake; using it is impermissible for me, and my money is lost.
