Bringing cloth from Nepal and selling it

Question

Question: If someone brings cloth from Nepal and buys and sells that cloth in India at a profit, even though this is stealing from the government, is it permissible or not?

Answer

Since this act is against the law and entails punishment, it should be avoided, for in it there is danger both to one’s honour and to one’s property, and taking such a risk is unwise, even if the property obtained through this buying and selling is not haram.
