Selling Poppy Flowers

Question

Is buying and selling poppy flowers permissible or not? The matter is this: a plant from which opium is obtained bears a flower, and this is what is meant. Drinking it produces a slight intoxication; it is drunk like tea.

Answer

If poppy flowers are used only for intoxication and there is no other benefit from them, then their sale is makruh, even if the intoxication from them is only slight.
