Trading in Opium and the Ruling on Its Income

Question

In our area, and especially in our village, people do business in opium. With the money obtained from this business they bought land, fields and orchards; now they are cultivated, and the opium business also continues. Is the income of such people lawful? What about eating at their homes? And what if they give donations from opium earnings to a mosque, an inn or religious madrasas?

Answer

Trading in opium is makruh. The income from cultivating the land that they bought with income from opium and cultivate will not be called haram; accepting donations from such income is also permissible, and eating and drinking at their homes is also permissible.
