What are the conditions for listening to qawwali (Sufi devotional singing with music)?

Answer

If in qawwali there are the large drum, the kettledrum and the like, then listening to it is not permissible under any condition. Merely listening to verses, without musical instruments, occasionally, from such a person in whom there is no kind of fitna (temptation) and nothing contrary to the Shari‘a, is proper.
