Kissing the Thumbs on Hearing the Blessed Name

Question

What is the ruling on the following: kissing the thumb at the words “أشهد أن محمدًا رسول الله”; making du‘a after every sunna prayer; after the fard prayer touching both ears with the hands, then touching the ground, then holding the earlobes (regarding this as a method of repentance)? And what is the ruling on wiping the face with the hands after reciting the tasbih, before making du‘a?

Answer

Kissing the thumbs at “أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ” and regarding it as rewardable is not established in the Sacred Law. Du‘a after every prayer — fard, sunna or nafl — is correct. The method of repentance that is current among the common people is not worthy of being followed; rather, it ought to be abandoned.
