Is the Boy’s Side Superior to the Girl’s Side?

Question

Some people hold that the boy’s side (لڑکے والے — those who have a son) is of a higher rank, and that the rank of the girl’s side (لڑکی والے — those who have a daughter) is lower than that of the boy’s side. Is there such a difference in rank in the Sacred Law as well?

Answer

On account of these things a person’s rank in the Sacred Law neither rises nor falls. This difference in rank is something devised by the common people.
