The Shadow of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
Was the Prophet ﷺ, full of light, the noble Prophet, compassionate and merciful, a nur (light) or not? What is meant by “nur” in the sacred verse: [ar]قَدْ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٌ وَكِتَـٰبٌ مُّبِينٌ[/ar] “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book” (Surah al-Ma’ida, 5:15)? Moreover, it is stated in a hadith: “Every prophet is mustajab (one whose supplication is answered)” (كُلُّ نَبِيٍّ مُسْتَجَابٌ)
Answer
Among the names of the Prophet ﷺ is also the name “Nur” — Ibn al-Qayyim and others have stated this explicitly. The explicit statement that the noble Prophet ﷺ had no shadow is found in many books: in “al-Shifa” of Qadi ‘Iyad, in “al-Khasa’is al-Kubra”, “Fath al-‘Aziz”, “Madarij al-Nubuwwa” and others.
