The Death of One Who Kills Himself Is Not in His Own Hands

Question

Concerning death, a certain person says: “It is in my power: if I kill myself right now, who can stop me?” How can his ideas be refuted?

Answer

The time of everyone’s death is appointed by Allah the Exalted, and its cause is appointed too. Sometimes a man drowns, takes poison, resorts to various means — yet if the time has not come, he does not die; when the time comes, then he dies.
