A vow to perform the ‘aqiqa upon recovery

Question

Question: A woman’s daughter fell ill. She made a vow: “If the girl recovers, I will perform the ‘aqiqa (sacrifice on the occasion of a child’s birth), in which there will be two animals,” whereas for a girl there is one goat. Now, in such a case, are two animals necessary on the occasion of the ‘aqiqa, or will one animal suffice?

Answer

No vow (nadhr) came into being with these words, as long as it was not said: “I will slaughter these two goats and give the meat in charity (sadaqa).” Hence, if she slaughters one goat for the ‘aqiqa, the ‘aqiqa will be valid as well.
