A vow to hold a mawlid
Question
Question: If a person vowed (nadhr) to have a mawlud (mawlid) recited, is it necessary for him to fulfil it or not?
Answer
Holding a gathering of mawlid (celebration of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth) in the currently prevalent manner is, according to the Shari‘a, a baseless bid‘a (innovation in religion) and impermissible, although the remembrance of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in itself is a source of good, a cause of blessing and a means of nearness to Allah (qurba)
