Oxidised polyethylene wax is the product of mild oxidation of polyethylene or PE wax with air (oxygen, ozone) at 120–250 °C. The raw material is fossil ethylene (per the EWF up to 15 % propylene); at Braskem — PE wax from sugarcane ethanol (c2); in Chinese patents and studies — PE waste, incl. agricultural film (c25). The EWF states no catalysts are used; EFSA disagrees.
