Making a Cupboard for a Shop in the Mosque Wall
Question
A mosque stands by a road; its floor is two feet higher than even a man’s height. The mosque has a small shop. If, to enlarge it, a small cupboard is made in which tailoring goods can be kept — this cupboard will lie below the floor of the mosque — is this permissible or not?
Answer
A place that is a mosque in the Sharʿi sense is a mosque entirely, below and above. To make a cupboard in the mosque wall in such a way that it lies below the floor of the mosque, to give it on rent and to make it a source of income is not correct according to the Shariʿa — whether the cupboard is for tailoring or for any other goods.
