Expanding a mosque on all four sides

Question

People have made a graveyard on all four sides of the mosque. Now the mosque has become cramped and it needs to be expanded on all four sides. May the mosque be expanded on all four sides or not?

Answer

If the present mosque is cramped, it is proper to expand it round about on all four sides as the interests (masalih) require. If the land does not belong to the mosque, it may be bought.
