Expanding a mosque
Question
Regarding the building of a mosque: for what reasons will it become necessary to put up a mosque? (1) The hundred-year-old mosque is becoming very cramped in relation to the population. (2) There is no room around the old mosque to extend it on all four sides; it can be extended only on two sides. (3) The mosque stands right at the edge of a public road, because of which the wheels of bullock carts sometimes strike the mosque’s pillar, and because of the carts the mosque is nothing but dust. (4)
Answer
When, by the grace of Allah Most High, the worshippers are many and cannot fit into the mosque, the mosque should be enlarged: from whichever side space is available, that space should be taken and the mosque widened.
