The ruling on a trustee who does not fulfil his responsibility

Question

If some mutawalli has had no connection with a building given in waqf for such a long period — approximately 12 years — what are the duties of the Muslims? And what is the ruling on the mutawalli according to the Shari‘a?

Answer

In such a situation the Muslims should appoint some other person as mutawalli who will supervise and serve the waqf with full responsibility, will not let the waqf go to waste, and will strive as far as possible to fulfil the purpose of the waqif (endower).
