Which rope of the sacrificial animal is given in sadaqa

Question

Question: It is wajib to give the rope, the cloth covering and the like of the sacrificial animal in charity (sadaqa). Our custom here is that people buy an animal and then leave it with the seller for grazing, paying him a grazing fee. When the sacrifice is to be made, they go, tie the animal with their own rope, bring it and sacrifice it at once. Sometimes it also happens that with the same rope they go again, tie another animal, bring it and slaughter it.

Answer

When the sacrificial animal was bought and brought, and the seller handed it over tied with a rope, that is, together with the rope, then that rope should be given in sadaqa. If one kept it on one’s own rope, there is no command to give that in sadaqa.
