Details concerning a vow of sacrifice
Question
The question (istifta) put to the esteemed muftis of our Shari‘a of Mustafa ﷺ is this: will a vowed (nadhr) shat (head of small livestock) or cow at one year of age necessarily be fit for sacrifice or not? If so, kindly favour us with a satisfying answer, quoting the texts of books with their names and the exact pages; we shall be grateful.
Answer
If the vow of a shat has the form of udhiya, that is, the vow was made thus: “By Allah, I take it upon myself to sacrifice a shat” (لله علي أن أضحي شاة), then all the conditions of udhiya must be met in it, because in such a vow sacrificing a shat (tadhiya) is wajib upon him: he should sacrifice, in the days of sacrifice (ayyam al-nahr)
