Sacrificing on behalf of a travelling son without his permission

Question

Question: A person was going out for tabligh; he was a traveller (musafir), and sacrifice was not wajib upon him. But on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice) his father offered a sacrifice on his behalf. After coming home, this person approved of it and also gave the money. Has his sacrifice now become valid or not? And what is the ruling on the sacrifice of the six people who were partners?

Answer

The sacrifice the father offered on his behalf is a voluntary gift (tabarru‘) and a kindness on the father’s part; its meaning is that he gifted him the reward of the sacrifice, and reward can be gifted to the living as well. Now it is not right to take money from him; the money should be returned. Everyone’s sacrifice has been discharged.
