Maintenance of a mother who leads a dissolute life

Question

Question: For 24 years Zayd has continuously witnessed with his own eyes the misconduct of his mother, and he kept giving her food and maintenance. Ten years ago Zayd’s mother again entered into an unlawful relationship with a Hindu ticket clerk, yet Zayd still kept giving her money for her expenses.

Because of this unlawful relationship the mother’s maintenance (nafaqa) does not lapse; rather, if the mother is needy and poor, her maintenance is wajib upon the son.
