If you go to Sarai, I will give you talaq

Question

A minor quarrel occurred between Zayd and his wife because Hinda, Zayd’s wife, went from her father’s house to the house of her maternal aunt, and Zayd had a grievance against Hinda’s aunt. During the conversation some things happened that made Zayd’s anger flare up greatly, whereupon Zayd said: “If you now go to Sarai, I will give you talaq” (Sarai is the neighbourhood where Hinda’s house, that is, her father’s house, is located).

Answer

In the case asked about, a major (mughallaza) divorce has taken place: now there remains neither the right of taking back (ruju‘) nor any possibility of remarrying — until halala takes place there is no permissible way.
