The Tasawwuf Practices of a Certain Spiritual Guide
Question
A certain alim came to a village last year and opened a very large madrasa of tasawwuf. There, the names of the disciples are written down and they are enrolled; every day the disciples’ names are called out and their presence or absence is marked. The madrasa is opened twice a year: once for seven days, and again for five days. In total, for twelve days a year, they teach their disciples tasawwuf, hold gatherings for isal al-thawab (conveying reward to the dead), and deliver and organise sermons.
Answer
You have written in full detail about the method of earning money and doing business. But you have not written what exactly they teach in tasawwuf, so that its permissibility or impermissibility could be examined, and it could be established whether such tasawwuf is fard al-‘ayn or not, and whether knowledge of the Sacred Law is complete or incomplete without such ma‘rifa.
