Reciting the Spiritual Guide’s Name as a Regular Litany and Taking an Offering from a Disciple
Question
What is the ruling on reciting the name of the spiritual guide as a regular litany? Also, what is the ruling on the guide taking an offering from his disciples?
Answer
Reciting the name of the guide as a regular litany is not permissible. If a disciple offers a gift (hadiya) willingly and it is from lawful wealth, then accepting it in order to please his heart is correct. Taking an offering from him against his will, as though it were a tax, is not permissible — it is haram.
