Are the Awliya Infallible?

Are the friends of Allah (awliya) infallible (ma‘sum), like the prophets, upon them be peace?

Infallibility (‘isma) is a special quality of the prophets, upon them be prayer and peace. As for many of the friends of Allah (awliya), Allah the Pure keeps them protected from sins, and from some of the perfected awliya a sin may occasionally occur, but at the very moment of the sin they remain fearful [of Allah], and they are so deeply remorseful over the sin that other…
