Bay‘ah with Two Spiritual Guides

Question

[Someone] has taken bay‘ah with two spiritual guides, and maintains full, dutiful affection towards both of them. Should he leave one of the guides, or remain a disciple of both?

Answer

Since the first spiritual guide follows the Sacred Law, follows the sunna, and possesses a spiritual connection, and there is benefit from his guidance, one should not have taken bay‘ah with the second guide; yet one should not speak ill of him either — proper moral conduct is to be maintained towards everyone. The [true] guide, however, remains only the first one.
