Taking Bay‘ah from a Second Elder After the First

Question

If someone has taken bay‘ah with one elder, and then, after some days, out of his own lack of understanding or on a friend’s suggestion, has taken bay‘ah with another elder — and after taking that bay‘ah he learns that, having taken bay‘ah with one elder, one should not take bay‘ah with another — what should he do now, given that he has already taken bay‘ah with the second elder?

Answer

Such a person should perform istikhara [saying]: “O Allah, I have made a mistake. Whichever of them is destined to bring me benefit, cast that into my heart and grant me benefit through him, and empty my heart of this matter with regard to the other one.
