Buying Shares in an Interest-Based Company
Question
In the present age, secure capital — for example, agricultural property, houses and the like — is all at risk, because whoever takes possession of it does not give it up. So what is the ruling on buying company shares for the sake of secure capital, given that the scholars nowadays have permitted insurance in its present state?
Answer
All these difficulties pertain to large capital, through which the aim is to establish a special, lofty standing for oneself in the market and to make a name. For one’s own subsistence and for meeting obligatory maintenance expenses (nafaqa), neither is that much capital needed nor are there such difficulties in it.
