Hunting with a gun bullet

Question: If a person went hunting, fired his gun at the game after saying the takbir, and the game died from his bullet before the hunter reached it, what is the ruling? Will the meat of the game be eaten or not?

Answer

Eating it is not proper: [ar]أو بندقة ثقيلة ذات حدة؛ لقتلها بالثقل لا بالحد اهـ. قال الشامي: ولا يخفى أن الجرح بالرصاص إنما هو بالإحراق والثقل وبواسطة اندفاعه العنيف؛ إذ ليس له حد، فلا يحل، وبه أفتى ابن نجيم[/ar] “…or by a heavy pellet (bunduqa) that has an edge, because it kills by its weight, not by its edge.
