Waking people for suhur over a loudspeaker on which songs are sung

Question

Obscene songs are played over a loudspeaker, and some qawwalis (Sufi devotional songs with music) as well. Is it permissible to wake people for suhur in this way or not? Is it permissible, on the occasion of weddings, to set up a loudspeaker and sing and play music in this way or not? And the money that is earned from the loudspeaker — is it halal or haram? If some learned scholar stays at such a person’s home or eats food there, is that permissible or not?

Answer

Waking people for suhur by singing songs over a loudspeaker in this way is prohibited: it is contrary to the reverence due to Ramadan, and it is also impermissible in itself. At weddings, too, this thing is forbidden. Earning money in this way is also forbidden. People of knowledge should not accept an invitation to a meal provided from such money.
