The ruling on salawat in the first sitting of the sunna and witr

Question

In the four-rak‘a sunna prayer and in witr, is it better to recite the salawat after the Tahiyyat of the two rak‘as or not? Or will sajda al-sahw have to be performed?

Answer

In the four-rak‘a emphasized sunna and in witr, if after two rak‘as the salawat was recited forgetfully, taking [this sitting] to be the final sitting (qa‘da akhira), sajda al-sahw will be necessary (lazim).
