Ruling on Reciting Surah al-Fatiha Silently in Loud Prayers and Loudly in Silent Prayers

Question

If an imam in a loud (jahri) prayer recites Surah al-Fatiha completely silently, or in a silent (sirri) prayer recites it aloud, what should he do when he remembers? Should he continue from where he stopped, correct from that point, or start again? Will the prayer remain valid after such a mistake? Is sujood al-sahw required, and at what point does it become obligatory?

Answer

If in a loud prayer an amount equal to three verses is recited silently by mistake, then sujood al-sahw becomes necessary. The same ruling applies when something that should be recited silently in a silent prayer is recited aloud. If Surah al-Fatiha was recited silently in a loud prayer, then it should be recited aloud, and afterward sujood al-sahw should be performed.
