The Fidya for Prayer and Fasting
Question
A person, while ill, missed the prayers of two times and six fasts of Ramadan, and this person passed away. How is the expiation (kaffara) for these fasts and prayers now to be calculated, that is, what fidya is to be given for each prayer and [each] fast, and should the expiation be given to one needy person or to several? Please explain and be rewarded.
Answer
[ar]يُعْطَى لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ نِصْفَ صَاعٍ مِنْ بُرٍّ كَالْفِطْرَةِ، وَكَذَا حُكْمُ الْوِتْرِ وَالصَّوْمِ[/ar] “For each prayer half a sa‘ of wheat is given, as [in] the sadaqat al-fitr; and likewise is the ruling for witr and fasting” (“al-Durr al-Mukhtar”, vol. 1, p. 101). Or in “Shami” (p. 766)
