Salawat after two rak‘as of tarawih and tasbih after four
Question
Question: In the month of Ramadan an incident took place in our mosque here. Previously, as is our custom in the month of Ramadan, we recite salawat twice after two rak‘as of tarawih, and after [the next] two rak‘as, that is, after four rak‘as, we recite the tasbih or “Muqallib al-‘ibad” (مقلب العباد); in this way both wirds are recited five times daily. But after that the muqtadis requested that the prayer be hastened, because the heat is intense and mosquitoes bite.
Answer
Tarawih is prayed as twenty rak‘as. After every four rak‘as one should sit for a while; at that time whoever wishes may recite the Noble Qur’an, whoever wishes may do tasbih and istighfar, and whoever wishes may sit silently. The Shari‘a imposes no restriction on anything [of this], and there is no objection against anyone.
