An Agreement with the Imam That No Salary Be Deducted for Absence Is Valid

Question

The imam is paid remuneration for his imamate from the mosque fund, but every month the imam does not come for roughly a quarter of the [prayer] times. Upon the followers' objection, the administrator, having somehow persuaded the followers, settled that if in one month he fails to come for 20 times or fewer, nothing is to be deducted from his full salary paid from the mosque fund, and if the absences exceed 20 times, a deduction is to be made. Is this agreement permissible?

Answer

This kind of arrangement is also correct. Let the followers, regarding it as a boon, agree to it, and request the respected administrator to arrange for a correct reckoning of his absences. For madrasa employees there is an attendance register, from which correct information is obtained.
