The imamate of a boy

Question

In blessed Ramadan some people, in order to listen to the Holy Qur’an, make the niyya of a nafl prayer behind minor boys. Are these people’s prayers valid, given that a child is not qualified for the imamate? If they are not valid, will they then have to be repeated (i‘ada)?

Answer

The correct (sahih) position is that it is not valid for an adult to follow a minor even in a nafl prayer. If this has been done, the nafl should be repeated as a precaution.
