The Imamate of One Who Had His Daughter Taught by a Non-Mahram
Question
Zayd’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Qamar al-Nisa’, was being taught privately by Mu‘in. Every evening Mu‘in came to teach Qamar al-Nisa’ and her younger brother and sister. Seeing Zayd’s strict supervision, Mu‘in said to him: “Do not suspect me; I will marry none other than your daughter, and I have no greed for money and the like.” Matters came to such a pass that one day Mu‘in committed zina with Qamar al-Nisa’ and she became pregnant.
Answer
The Shari‘a has made hijab obligatory, and there are many wisdoms in it; and there is a strict injunction to guard against a bad environment — in this there are many benefits and many advantages. In not acting upon the rulings of the Shari‘a lies the ruin of honour and dignity as well as destruction in the Hereafter.
