The Imamate of One Who Had Non-Mahram Women Massage His Body

Question

Zayd is the imam of a mosque; he is a hafiz of the Glorious Qur’an and recites in the Panipati style. However, because he is not married, certain things contrary to the Shari‘a are observed in him. Because of this some people have stopped praying behind him altogether, while others pray behind him reluctantly.

Answer

Merely on account of these things, to become suspicious, give up praying behind him and feel aversion towards him is not appropriate. It is better to explain to him gently and in a suitable manner: “These actions of yours give rise to suspicion and aversion among the people, so be careful — especially since you are not married, which gives even greater occasion for suspicion.
