Becoming a life member of a newspaper

Question

Question: Nowadays newspapers have the practice of enrolling life members. The one who pays a hundred rupees may die that very day while the newspaper runs for 25 years, or the one who paid the money may stay alive while the newspaper ceases. In such a situation, is it permissible to become a life member or not?

Answer

This is a form of qimar (gambling), which is impermissible.
