An Inquiry into the Narration on the Opening of the Chest (Shaqq al-Sadr)

Question

It is recorded in the books of sira that when the Prophet ﷺ was with the tribe of his wet-nurse Halima, the opening of the chest occurred; and on the night of the Mi‘raj, when he was in the Hatim, the opening of the chest occurred again at that time too. To what extent is this narration sound?

Answer

In “Tafsir Mazhari” (vol. 10, p. 290), the first event is related on the authority of Sahih Muslim, and the second event is related on the authority of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. If further detail is required, refer to “Tafsir Ibn Kathir.
