A Mother Nursing Her Child Is Not Contrary to Human Dignity
Question
The respected scholars forbid the transplantation of organs (kidney, eye and so on), because these organs are parts of a human being, and the human being is deserving of honour, and every part of him is honoured: [ar]وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ[/ar] “We have honoured the children of Adam…” (Surah al-Isra’, 17:70). If a person gives some part of himself to someone, this is contrary to honour.
Answer
Allah Most High has granted the human being honour, and it is He who has commanded the child’s mother to nurse: [ar]وَٱلْوَٰلِدَٰتُ يُرْضِعْنَ أَوْلَـٰدَهُنَّ[/ar] “Mothers shall nurse their children…” (Surah al-Baqara, 2:233). [ar]وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ[/ar] “And We inspired the mother of Musa: ‘Nurse him…’” (Surah al-Qasas, 28:7).
