Not Marrying Because of Religious Occupation Despite the Parents’ Insistence

Question

A man is twenty-eight (28) years old, and his mother and father insist that he marry (enter into nikah). The man is occupied with his religious work and does not earn enough to support a wife and children; he also has control over his nafs and is not prepared to marry, which displeases his mother and father. What is the ruling (mas’ala) in this situation?

Answer

Since he has not yet married, what question is there of meeting the needs of children? If this man’s condition with respect to desire is moderate and he has the means, upon marrying, to pay his wife the obligatory (wajib) maintenance (nafaqa)
