The Groom’s Side Greeting the Gathering at the Engagement

Question

At the time of the engagement, when the set of clothes and the like is given, the one from the boy’s side greets the entire gathering with the salam. What is the ruling on giving this salam?

Answer

This salam is not a Shari‘a salam; it is a salam of custom and convention, which ought to be abandoned.
