The Mahr “According to the Shari‘a of Muhammad”
Question
The mahr “according to the Shari‘a of Muhammad” is fixed at 8 rupees. Is this correct or wrong? If it is wrong, how much of this amount is correct, and what other amounts besides this are correct?
Answer
Answer (1) By the mahr “according to the Shari‘a of Muhammad” what is generally meant is the mahr of Fatima (the mahr given to Fatima ﵂). Its amount is written in the margin of Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”, vol. 3, p. 24) as approximately one hundred and fifty-six rupees and eight annas (a coin worth 1/16 of a rupee)
