Nikah Concluded Through Coercion
Question
Zayd has a daughter. Ten men together tell him: "Marry the girl to Bakr, and if you do not, we will beat you." If the girl's father, fearing for his life, now contracts his daughter's nikah with Bakr, is it permissible or not?
Answer
Coercing in this way without cause is a sin and impermissible, but the nikah is concluded even in this situation. [ar]نكاح المكره صحيح[/ar] "The nikah of the coerced person is valid" (Shami, vol. 2, p. 373).
