Nikah by Compulsion

Question

Hind's brothers married her to Zayd by force; her father had already died. Hind was sane and adult. The bride's send-off to her husband's home was also carried out by force. A year has passed in this state; during this year there was perhaps twice a meeting with the wife. In this way Hind is not at all pleased with Zayd and does not accept the nikah. In this state, is Hind Zayd's wife or not? If she is, what will be the way of separation?

Answer

If Hind had refused clearly and plainly and the brothers nevertheless married her off, and on merely hearing the news that the nikah had taken place Hind refused and rejected this nikah, then this nikah is not valid; her departure with Zayd and meeting him were then a grave sin, and in that case she is not Zayd's wife.
