The Ruling on One Who Calls Yazid ibn Mu‘awiya a Kafir or Accursed

Question

Does one who calls Yazid ibn Mu‘awiya a kafir or accursed go out of the fold of Islam or not?

Answer

Concerning Yazid, the Greatest Imam Abu Hanifa says that one should keep silent and refrain: neither call him a kafir nor curse him, but rather commit his affair to God Most High. Those scholars for whom it is established by research that acts of kufr were present in Yazid ibn Mu‘awiya deem cursing Yazid and pronouncing him a kafir permissible.
